An English Creamware Quintal Vase
ca. 1780–90
Five bulbs rising from a moulded plinth, each terminating in a spout for flowers. Executed in lead-glazed earthenware, likely from the Yorkshire and Humber region. Ornamented with festoons, pearls, egg-and-dart bands and rose medallions.
An identical example is held in the collection of Temple Newsam House (Leeds) and was published in Walton’s Creamware and other English Pottery at Temple Newsam House, Leeds (London: Manningham, 1976), p. 138. A closely related example (ca. 1785) is on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
Used and loved—some minor chips and glaze imperfections. Height: 23 cm.
